Candle
by April
The candle bemoaned
“Oh what a sorry plight!
What kills me slow and sure,
Is what gives me life and light!”
“If I am to live
Let fire dance and sway,
Then I will surely die
And slowly shrink away”
“Then do I choose darkness,
For all my days remain?
I will then live forever,
Void of life, but void of pain.”
“Or do I choose to burn,
Glorious and Bright?
And surely, surely die,
Dwindling out of sight.”
“What is life if,
You never burn and live?
What is living if you’re sure
Your life you must give?”
And thus the candle sat
Alone in the empty hall.
“What is life if,
You never live at all?”
“Oh what a sorry plight!
What kills me slow and sure,
Is what gives me life and light!”
“If I am to live
Let fire dance and sway,
Then I will surely die
And slowly shrink away”
“Then do I choose darkness,
For all my days remain?
I will then live forever,
Void of life, but void of pain.”
“Or do I choose to burn,
Glorious and Bright?
And surely, surely die,
Dwindling out of sight.”
“What is life if,
You never burn and live?
What is living if you’re sure
Your life you must give?”
And thus the candle sat
Alone in the empty hall.
“What is life if,
You never live at all?”
