Forgotten Place
by April
Come my child
Come in
For I have a secret for you
A forgotten place
Full of dreams
For child, it’s winter
Outside the sharp wind blows
And ice grows thick
With the shortening days
But child, it’s spring
Forever spring
In the forgotten place
There the trees stretch up
Crooked arms reaching
For the distant sun
Sentinels watching the world go by
And vines they are creeping
Winding and twining
Round boughs and round wishes
They cross over the windows
And bind up the doors
Locking the secrets within
And the flowers,
Child, here they bloom
In glorious colors
Crimson and gold
Like butterflies. Caught.
In a clear glass jar
The water runs here
This forgotten place
Chortling and laughing
At riddles and rhymes
Riddles told long long ago
For child time’s forgotten
This secret place
Passes it right on by
So you can come here to dream
Come here to wish
To think wondrous thoughts
Of castles and clouds
Of knights and tomorrows
Of impossible things
Let the dreams all tangle
Among mosses and roots
Let wishes float among jaded leaves
‘Cause nothing can touch
Those wondrous dreams.
Nothing can touch the wishes made here.
They can grow with the saplings
And swing from the boughs
For child, though the winter will blow
And time it will keep marching on
The forgotten place will still be spring
With the dreams, and the hopes, and the wishes
And the trees they will guard them
The brilliant flowers will color them
And the vines, the vines will lock them away
Safe in the forgotten place
Where spring never fades
Come in
For I have a secret for you
A forgotten place
Full of dreams
For child, it’s winter
Outside the sharp wind blows
And ice grows thick
With the shortening days
But child, it’s spring
Forever spring
