It’d been a while since I used it
But I was sure it was there…
…on my night stand
…….where I sleep
Long ago
I would grab it and my ballet shoes
And the next thing I knew
I’d be dancing!
Dancing on the stars
My skirts swirling up clouds of light
Spinning among millions of fireflies
Pirouetting on the tip of a crescent moon
Long ago
I’d grab it and my big stuffed tiger
Hop on his broad striped back
And we’d go racing
Racing through the jungle
Fighting the wild eyed bare skinned natives
With savage cries and pounding drum beats
We were the King of the Jungle
Not so long ago
I’d grab it
And my long poled net
And wander along the beaches of my dreams
I’d try and catch the reflections
Of possibilities
As they danced on the water.
When I caught one I’d pull it in
Hold it dripping, rippling in my hand
Then throw it to the sky and watch it take flight
A myriad of futures
Shining in the night sky
I know
The shoes are worn and tucked away
The tiger's worn and on a shelf
And those shining possibilities have slowly faded
Into the horizon
So I opened my nightstand drawer
I was looking for that ticket
To Neverland
I looked and I looked
Under papers and past pencils
But I don’t know..
...it was just
….….gone
