I have one marble left
One beautiful marble
An iridescent green blue marble
A smooth cool marble
I keep it with me in a little bag
A soft worn leather bag
Tied with string
I keep it with me
And hold its cool roundness
In my cupped hands
And tell it secrets
And mutter soft somethings to it
When my head gets too full
Then I listen close
Cheek presses against curved coolness
And it whispers to me
And I always do as it says
For it knows
They say “he’s lost his marbles”
But no, thank goodness that’s not so!
For I have one
One marble left
One beautiful smooth marble
My iridescent green blue marble
